The 2026 Transportation Engineering Symposium brings transportation engineers and technical practitioners together for two focused, half-day virtual sessions dedicated to the real-world challenges shaping Ontario’s road and street networks.

Designed for professionals working at the intersection of operations, safety, policy, and implementation, this symposium moves beyond theory to examine how transportation engineering decisions are being made—and delivered—across municipalities today. Through practitioner-led presentations, case studies, and technical discussions, participants will explore how data, design standards, and emerging practices are being applied to manage congestion, improve safety, and support multimodal mobility in increasingly complex urban environments.

Across both half-day sessions, the symposium will feature insights from municipal leaders, consultants, and industry experts on topics such as:
• Traffic operations and microsimulation in complex and constrained networks
• Signal operations and design strategies that support safety and active transportation
• Updates to provincial standards and guidelines, including implications for practice
• Data-driven approaches to understanding congestion and network performance
• Curb lane management and the competing demands placed on urban streets
• Practitioner perspectives on implementation challenges and lessons learned

The virtual format allows for deeper focus, easier access, and broader participation, while maintaining the technical depth and professional rigor transportation engineers expect from OTC programming.
